Should we expect better or is this as good as it gets for a club our size?

Finish 11th.
Won our cup final.
Player in Argentinian squad.
Executive boxes in 'our' ground.
Above Leicester and Burnley below Bournemouth and WBA.
Probably exceeded 35,000 West Ham fans at a couple 9f home games.
No relegation worries last game.

Is this as good as it gets? Have all West Ham fans got a big smile on their face tonight?

How can it be as good as it gets when we finished higher last season and in many other seasons?
And we have 52k season ticket holders which is a lot more than your beloved Spurs.

With Sullivan in charge its unlikely to get any better, in fact a poor start to the season could see the better players wanting out in January.

want better...yes. expect better....no.

Find myself making excuses for us....which a lot of other clubs would do. And considering some factors, maybe it wasn't so bad. Could we expect more with those adverse challenges? maybe not. Should we expect more but what fans don't of their team?

Should have been above WBA and Bournemouth. I'd like to see us contending with the likes of Everton. Player for player we aren't far off but we don't have a Lukaku and that makes heaps of difference.

Expectations for a team like west ham should be mid table finishes on average with good seasons where we'll challenge for Europa league or cup run and bad ones where we'll spend some of the season flirting with a relegation battle. We are currently on par with sides like southampton and stoke city but with the benefit of being located in the capital which perhaps provides us an edge in attracting and retaining the better players.

We had a glimmer of a challenge at champions league last year but once that faded and we wimped out of the Europa league our star player was soon on his bike and we just couldn't replace his talent. That's the cycle we have to break but it'll require huge amounts of sustained investment in players that I just done see coming with the current owners. Will certainly be interesting to see if spuds can keep their current squad together or whether the wheels come off for them over the next couple of seasons.

The whole point about making the move to a 60,000 capacity stadium was about generating more money and attracting better quality players to try and push on from last season.

That clearly hasn't worked this season, I hate to say it but if you look at Spurs, they are ready for the next move up in terms of a bigger stadium etc.

If we continue to maintain that 'had a bad day at the office' mentality when we lose games, then we will never succeed.

When you aim for perfection, you often find it becomes a moving target !

It's a shockingly poor premiership and remember we got 1 point from 6 against West Brom.
It's all about ambition and I genuinely believe our owners have none, other than survival on a budget

The depressing fact is Southampton finished 8th and their manager is being sacked. They lost their last 5 games so could have been a place or two higher as well.

We finish 11th, 4 points above 15th, after worrying about relegation all season, and supporters are wetting themselves in celebration. Bilic hailed as great, supporters talking about finish 7th and fans are now saying it has been a good season.

Sad, sad days.
The owners have brainwashed many supporters.
Sad.

For every team from about 9th down, staying in the league is sadly the single greatest priority and achievement.

The likes of Everton and Southampton can probably rightly consider themselves to be pushing for something a bit more, but still short of competing for the Champions League places and above.

There is no reason thst 'a club of our size' could not break into that conversation, but it would require genuine ambition and commitment at board level and a coherent strategy. Currently, we don't have any of that.

This is why a good cup run is so beneficial to clubs like us, and why people like Allardyce treating them with contempt is short sighted. Competiting in a cup is the only tjing that gives the fans of any medium sized club something to really dream about these days (Leicester being an anomaly that won't be repeated). That in turn gets the fans onside and will buy both board and manager a lot of goodwill that just finishing somewhere between 9th and 14th or 15th never will.
